Artist Cohort Alumni Exhibit

Lake Region Arts Council is celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Artist Cohort Program. Since 2017, over 30 talented artists have participated in the program. Each Cohort spent 10 months working on their career development goals. We invite the public to visit the LRAC Artist Cohort Alumni Exhibit and enjoy a diversity of artistic styles and disciplines.

Curator Naomi Schliesman describes the Artist Cohort Alumni Exhibit, on display in LRAC’s Main Gallery space January 9 - March 15, 2023.

The exhibiting artists are: Carmen McCullough, Detroit Lakes; Chanda Kraft, Alexandria; Becky Albright, Alexandria; Jodi Peterson, Moorhead; Mike Weatherly, Elbow Lake; Nancy X. Valentine, Underwood; Patricia Ann Wahl, Fergus Falls; Ruth Hanson, Vining; and Sean Scott, Battle Lake.

6A High School Art Competition

Lake Region Arts Council is proud to exhibit selected artwork from the 2023 Minnesota State High School League Region 6A Visual Arts exhibition and competition. This annual competition showcases the best artwork from high school students across the state. Students compete at regional and then state level. Entries are judged on the quality of the artwork in the student's artist statement. Regional winners will go on to compete at the statewide competition. The exhibition opens Monday, April 3rd and closes on Saturday, April 29th with a closing reception for the students and families and is open to the public from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM. Please join us for refreshments while we celebrate the students of 6A Visual Arts exhibition and competition.

Wearable Art Exhibit

“The ‘Wearable Art Exhibit‘ will feature creative and unusual uses of fiber, textiles and other materials. This will be a juried exhibit of work by artists living in Lake Region Arts Council’s 9 county region. The public is invited to visit the Gallery and enjoy this unique fashion show,” explains Maxine Adams, LRAC Executive Director.

The artists featured in this wearable exhibit include: Audrey Dahl of Detroit Lakes, Wendy Davenport of Fergus Falls, Dominic Facio of Fergus Falls, Christy Goulet of Dilworth, Yvonne Hanley of Fergus Falls, Victoria Hanna of Fergus Falls, Jessica Hexum of Fergus Falls, Jennifer Hippe of Starbuck, Madison Hubert of Fergus Falls, Sarah Karsnia of Fergus Falls, Sharon Marquardt of Henning, Katy Olson of Fergus Falls, Joan Jarvis Ellison of Pelican Rapids, and Mary Jo Wentz of Battle Lake.

Guest Juror Brian Frink

Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC) is honored to have Brian Frink as our Guest Juror this year. Brian was Art Department Chair for six of the 32 years he taught at Minnesota State University - Mankato. Brian has exhibited his work at Minnesota Museum of American Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and many other galleries, universities, and art centers around the country. He has juried many exhibitions and has served on boards and selection panels.

Some of the artistic disciplines featured in this exhibition include oil painting, ceramics, mixed media, kinetic sculpture, fiber art, print-making, beadwork, and more.

Regional Artists in this Exhibit

Brian Frink chose 22 artists living within LRAC’s nine-county region. The artists include: Rebecca Albright, Blayze Buseth, Kim Bromley, Shanna Cramer, Dar Eckert, Kim Embretson, Christy Goulet, Scott Gunvaldson, Torri Hanna, John House, Phyllis Joos, Inkpa Mani, Su Legatt, Hannah Maki, Carmen McCullough, Katy J Olson, Jim Park, Vicky Radel, Annett Richter, Stacy Wendt, Mary Jo Wentz, and Carl Zachmann.

Strength lies in differences, not in similarities - Exhibit

We challenge our regional artists to create work based on Steven Covey’s quote, “Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.” We expect they will respond with an exciting variety of styles and mediums. This is a juried exhibit that will have something for everyone.

6A High School Art Competition

Exhibit of selected art work from this year’s High School 6A Minnesota State Visual Arts Exhibition and Competition at Fergus Falls, MState. Curator selected 15-20 pieces for exhibit at LRAC before competitors moved on to the State level. Exhibit was only up for the month of April.

May – June 2022

Portraits

LRAC’s Main Gallery is hosting an exhibit dedicated to the art of portraiture. Representing portraits in all mediums, 30 regional artists are sharing their best work in this exhibit. The Portraits Exhibit will be open from now until June 30th with a public reception, May 17 from 5:30-7pm.

Regional Art Selected by Guest Juror

 
 

Always our most popular exhibit with regional artists. LRAC selects a high profile artist/arts professional to act as the juror for this exhibit. Open to all genres. Guest juror will select 15-20 pieces. Jurors in the past have been from Minnesota Museum of American Art, MNArtist.org, and Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This exhibit features artists that live in LRAC’s nine county region.

Tasha Kubesh

The Guest Juror for this exhibit is Tasha Kubesh. She is the previous Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at Plains Art Museum (2016- 2021) in Fargo, North Dakota, and Gallery Director at Flanders Art (2000- 2010) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tasha has over twenty years of experience working with contemporary visual artists and art in the Midwest region, specializing in the presentation of Modern American and regional Contemporary Art. Kubesh graduated from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2001, and studied at Parsons Paris School of Art and Design, Paris, France, and at Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Off The Wall

Lake Region Arts Gallery Committee juried the next exhibition at Lake Region Arts Council’s Main Gallery titled, “Off-the-Wall”. This exhibition runs October 4 – December 23, 2022. There will be 15 exhibiting artists from the LRAC’s 9 county region! “Off-the-Wall” features art that is 3D and 4D, that explores dimensional mediums and multiple techniques of creating art. Dimensional work such as sculpture, woodturning, ceramics, glass, fiber work, and mixed media. Anything that doesn't hang on the wall!
