FY23 Spring Project Grant Awardees Announced

LRAC Grant to Fund Eight Exciting New Arts Activities

Lake Region Arts Council, Fergus Fall, MN announces the results of the Spring Project Grant Round held on March 21, 2023. $19,820 was awarded to eight projects to be held throughout the LRAC nine-county region. The available amount to be awarded was $19,820, and a total of $47,450 was requested.

The Spring Project Grant from LRAC is just one of the many different grant programs available to artists and organizations located within our 9-county region. To be considered for a project grant, proposed activities must be directly involved in the creation, performance, and/or exhibition of an artistic project. This grant is open to all artistic disciplines.

The following projects have been selected to receive grant funding through Lake Region Arts Council and has been made possible by a Minnesota State Legislative appropriation.

 

Minnesota State University Moorhead Percussion Studio

Whitney McClusky of Duniya West African Rhythm and Dance Troupe will perform at the MSUM Day of Percussion

The Minnesota State University Moorhead Percussion Studio will host a Percussion Day and Mass Drumline event featuring three guest artists for students and adults from across the region on November 4, 2023.

During this day-long event, guest artists will present clinics and masterclasses from a wide variety of percussion disciplines for hundreds of attendees. The Day will conclude with a live-streamed "grand finale" performance featuring members of the MSUM World Percussion Ensemble sharing the stage with the guest artists while performing music from around the world.

 

Lakes Chamber Music Society

Lakes Chamber Music Society will produce a summer classical chamber music four-concert series, Alexandria Festival of the Lakes. Alexandria Festival of the Lakes is an annual chamber music concert series presented by Lakes Chamber Music Society in August. The concerts are performed by professional musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Duluth Symphony, and by other renowned classical chamber music artists in the US and Canada. T

he Festival for 2023 will take place over the course of several days beginning on August 9, 2023.

 

Browns Valley School District 801

Barrett, MN-based Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will do a residency at Browns Valley School District 801.

The Browns Valley School District 801 will use the grant funds to sponsor a one-week Artist in Residency with the Prairie Fire Children's Theatre culminating with a public theatre performance. They hope this project will allow students to learn about theatre production and acting.

The show will take place in November of 2023.

 

Alexandria Community Education

Beaded jewelry by Theresa Ziebarth-Moritz.

Alexandria Community Education will sponsor an community education class for community members to make American Indian Beaded Necklaces and learn about Ojibwe Stories, History, and Culture in May and June, 2023.

The class will be taught by Native American artist Theresa Ziebarth-Moritz. Participants will be encouraged to use the necklace to tell the Ojibwe cultural teaching using the necklace at home.

 

Kicks Band of Fargo Moorhead

Kicks Band of Fargo Moorhead will hold a jazz festival in Aug. 2023.

Kicks Band of Fargo Moorhead will bring an authentic American art form rich in history, culture, and tradition to the people via the setting of a modern music festival. This 5-hour, free public concert will feature a variety of jazz styles performed by 6 different groups, all with ties to the Fargo Moorhead community.

The festival will be held at Gooseberry Mounds Park, Moorhead, MN on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 12 pm  - 5:00 pm.

 

DanceBARN Collective

DanceBARN will host their 5th annual Youth Camp in Aug. 2023.

DanceBARN Collective will host the 5th annual Youth Camp in Battle Lake August 20-25, 2023. Their camp, intended for up to 16 young dancers (grades 6-12) features a full schedule of dance classes including improvisation, jazz, ballet, composition, yoga, and more.

The dancers will complete a community service project that serves the community of Battle Lake, and take part in 2 performances that are open to the public. 

 

Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance

PRCA will host the first “Fall Into the Arts Festival” in Morris in September, 2023.

Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance (PRCA) will produce a new culturally inclusive community arts festival event with music, art, performance art and arts experiences for the community in Sep. 2023.

This free “Fall Into the Arts Festival” will include local musicians, dancers and other performances, as well as displays, demonstrations, free workshops and art sales opportunities for local artists and the public, as well as a steel drum band, a musical genre rarely heard in our area.

 

Ulen-Hitterdal School

Wire tree by Adam Holzgrove. Holzgrove will complete a school residency at Ulen-Hitterdal School.

Ulen-Hitterdal School will bring in wire artist Adam Holzgrove for a 4-day artist residency program with K-12 students and conduct an evening artist talk and demonstration for the general public.

An evening general public artist talk and demonstration will take place April 27 from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Adam will demonstrate his sculpture skills, relate his personal art background through an artist talk and answer audience questions.


Get Ready for LRAC’s Next Grant Round!

If you’re part of an arts organization interested in our Project Grant funding, it isn’t too late to begin your application! Our Fall Project Grant round is coming up with an application deadline of Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 5:00pm followed by a Grant Review on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Awarded projects may begin any time after November 14, 2023.

All eligible arts organizations are encouraged to take advantage of this grant program. Organizations may apply for up to $3,000 per Project Grant application with a limit of $5,000 total for the fiscal year. Multiple applications are acceptable in each grant round.
